Colonial Williamsburg (Part 1 of 3)


When you visit the Colonial Williamsburg with the Gibsons, don't expect to be casual observers of this beautiful town. You become part of the history for a week.

Ever so patiently, the Gibson ladies have been teaching my daughter and me to sew Colonial clothes since last June. And here are some fun shots of our trip last week. Don't you think we look quite handsome?

Beautifully hand sewn stays....and yes, it is quite uncomfortable to wear for a long duration.

And meet Susan Liana Gibson, who is not only a beautiful seamstress but does the research on the period clothing to keep us on track.

    This is SO cool!! How fun to really dive into the time period, complete with faithfully replicated costumes! Looking forward to seeing more about it!

    Loved seeing this! We visited Colonial Williamsburg 3 years ago and really enjoyed it. We ate at the King's Arm. Yummy. Beautiful costumes.

    You're in Virginia?!?! I grew up in Norfolk, VA - so we went to Williamsburg all the time!

    I adore the authenticity of these costumes, particularly the detail with the corsets and hats. The outfits are perfect for Spring!

    I LOVE this. I am quite addicted to anything like this. Actually my favorite stuff is from about the 1500's...I long to wear dresses like that.

    What fun!! Your dresses are gorgeous, and your kids (as I've said before and I'll say again) are so darn good lookin'! I have a sister who's big into Revolutionary War reenactment, and she has a set of stays that she swears is super comfortable (they support her back or something). She's the sister who just finished my gown for the Regency ball next weekend--it's such fun to dress up in period clothing!

    My five years in Williamsburg and I NEVER saw clothing that beautiful! I can't believe you made them yourself! Simply amazing and I'm glad you and your family had such a great time in the Burg. I haven't been back in years, and I hear it's changed quite a bit. I used to love running on DOG (Duke of Gloucester) street.

    This looks like so much fun! When I was little (7 years old) I loved the American Girls (and still do). I especially loved the Felicity doll and have always wanted to go check out colonial Williamsburg. LOL. I love the dresses, they are gorgeous! Can't wait for part 2 and 3 of your trip!

    How beautiful! That's so neat that you made those costumes- they're so intricate! That must have been so fun to have the full Colonial Williamsburg experience! Hope you all had a wonderful trip! We love to go there too and try to go for the day several times a year since we're in Richmond. Its such a great place to explore esp. in the fall and spring!

    Oh my gosh, you all fit right in! Your talents are never ending. Beautiful sunset photos too. What a fun time! I was in Colonial Williamsburg with my family when I was eleven, but I rememeber it and I'd love to go again.
